Are We All Just Pawns in the Game Being Played by the Media and Celebrities Like Spike Lee and Others?

I’m so sorry I haven’t written or posted anything recently.  Reading and watching all the news is just making me crazy.  There’s so much going on, I can’t pick just a few to write about.

But now, Spike Lee’s irresponsible and dangerous behavior, has really pissed me off.  What he’s done is beyond reprehensible.  I read yesterday that he had re-tweeted the address to George Zimmerman’s house, which is stupid enough.  Now we find out it was the wrong address.

According to The Daily Caller:

The Washington Times’ Kerry Picket went to the address  that Lee tweeted as members of the New Black Panther Party were offering a $10,000 cash reward for Zimmerman’s capture, “dead or alive,” and others were demanding his arrest.

“[T]he Edgewater Circle address Mr. Lee re-tweeted out is not part of the gated Retreat at Twin Lakes where the shooting took place and where Mr. Zimmerman lives,” Picket reported. “The area is not even a gated a community.”

“In fact, I took a drive to that Edgewater Circle address that so many on Twitter re-tweeted and cursed, and I discovered through a neighbor, named Tim, who lives across the street from the address, that not only does George Zimmerman not live at the lakeside house but a woman by the name of Elaine does,” Picket added.

Picket also said several news agencies have showed up at the address looking for Zimmerman, which – with the crowds the Panthers, MSNBC’s Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have whipped up into a frenzy – may have put the woman, Elaine, in danger.

I’ve also found another story in The Orlando Sentinel that talks about the address belonging to an elderly couple who have a son named William George Zimmerman.  Here’s part of what that article had to say:

A school-cafeteria lunch lady and her husband have received hate mail, unwanted visits from reporters and fearful inquiries from neighbors — all because their Sanford-area address is being disseminated on Twitter as belonging to Trayvon Martin shooter George Zimmerman, her son said late Tuesday.

The woman, 70, who has a heart condition, and her husband, 72, have temporarily moved to a hotel to avoid the spotlight and possible danger, said son Chip Humble of Longwood.

The woman has another son named William George Zimmerman who lived with her in 1995 and still lives in Central Florida. He is no relation to George Zimmerman, 28, who killed 17-year-old Trayvon Feb. 26, sparking national outrage and international interest.

William Zimmerman isn’t sure how his mother and stepfather’s address became public. He said he used it to register a car, get a drivers license and vote when he lived there briefly after college.

“This is really scary, and I’m concerned for my family,” Zimmerman told the Orlando Sentinel Tuesday night. “It’s scary because there are people who aren’t mentally right and will take this information and run with it.”

Read story here.

This story mentions Spike Lee’s tweet also.  I don’t think Spike Lee should be able to just walk away from this without a second thought.   He should be arrested.  What he did was very irresponsible.  As a celebrity, his words have power and influence and the things he says carry more weight.  This gives him responsibility to use that power wisely.   He had no right to tweet anyone’s private address, especially when there is so much heat around this issue.  He didn’t even bother to see if it was the right address, although tweeting that would have been wrong too.  Now with a $10,000 price on Zimmerman’s head, dead or alive, by the New Black Panthers, putting just any address out without knowing if it was correct, he could have been the reason an innocent woman or elderly couple might have been hurt. He shouldn’t just be able to walk away from this.

I’m sickened that he thought this was the right thing to do.  What if those people had been hurt?  The older couple needed to go into hiding.  And why, with “several news agencies” showing up at this address, has the press not stressed that the address tweeted by Lee is the wrong address.  They’re content to watch while this situation gets more riled up and they sit by idly fanning the flames, by sitting on any news that contradicts the meme that if it bleeds it leads.  Maybe they’re just hoping for a riot, because its better financially for them if that should that happen. Activist Post: Texas Mayor Officially Cancels Agenda 21 Membership

Activist Post: Texas Mayor Officially Cancels Agenda 21 Membership

Now if we could only reach the common sense of all the other mayors.  The propaganda has just been too good for Agenda 21.  Oh, and most people have never heard of Agenda 21.  I hadn’t heard of it until just a few months ago.  Check out my other posts about Agenda 21 on this blog.

The city of Irving, Texas has officially withdrawn its membership from ICLEI — the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives.  This NGO was established in 1990 and is the action division of the policies laid out under the UN’s Agenda 21 plan — the globalist initiative to usher in a post-industrial world for the 21st century through the creation of local laws and requirements for city planning that essentially erase personal property rights and even steal land under a “sustainable” umbrella.

On ICLEI’s own website (under the “Programs” section), they state, “Our campaigns, programs, and projects promote Local Agenda 21 as a participatory, long-term, strategic planning process that addresses local sustainability while protecting global common goods.” Cities pay dues in order to obtain direction from ICLEI in establishing local policy and law. This is a violation of the Constitution, Article 1, Section 10:  “No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance or Confederation…” ICLEI receives funding by the David Rockefeller Fund, United States EPA, etc. ICLEI targets mayors — in the ‘Cool Mayor‘ program, and other local officials to implement Agenda 21. Wake Up! What Freedom Will Obama Force You to Do Next?

Wake up!  The Obama Administration and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services have launched a massive effort to mandate that all Americans pay for contraception, sterilization and abortion-causing drugs.  Why?  What dreaded disease in women’s health does this mandate protect us from?  The Pill, the day after pill, the abortion pill and sterilization don’t protect women from AIDS or other sexually transmitted diseases.  So what dreaded disease are the Obama Administration and the HHS trying to save us from?  Oh yeah!  It must be the dreaded disease of pregnancy.  But wait, why is this mandate such a big deal?  Well, I’ll tell you.  It doesn’t matter how many good Catholic women or women of other religions use contraception, the Catholic Church is pro-life in their teachings and principles and shouldn’t have to provide or pay for it.  Not for any of their employees working at any Catholic run institution or employees of any religious organization.  We shouldn’t have to pay for any of theses services with our tax dollars either.  I paid for my own and would never have asked someone else to cover the cost for my choices, and generally speaking, using any of these services are choices, not necessities.

Wake up!  This is NOT about women’s health or some obscure war on women.  This is about the Federal Government telling protected organizations what they can and can’t do.

Wake up!  If they can do this to Catholics and other organizations of conscience today, then who will they boss around tomorrow?  This is another in the series of slippery slopes toward the loss of our rights as Americans.

Once again I say, wake up!  There was a mandate released last month that will violate our civil liberties and free exercise of religion by forcing every American and every U.S. employer, regardless of religion or conscience, to pay for abortion-causing drugs, like Ella, in health insurance plans.

“The Con” – a video presented by AUL:

Can you believe that two weeks ago, Secretary for the Health and Human Services Department, Kathleen Sebelius, admitted during a Congressional hearing that this Mandate is needed because, “reducing pregnancies will cut health care costs”?  Are you kidding me?  That’s insane.  Contraceptives are available now on the cheap and some free and pregnancies have not gone down at all.  Personally, I think these progressives are the racists because they think poor black and Hispanic women can’t get birth control unless it’s free.

Wake up!  This mandate, due to take effect this summer, will violate the very principles our nation was founded on – your freedom of religion and conscience!  Maybe you don’t think so.  Let me give you an example of the administration picking and choosing which freedoms different religions can have.

(AP Photo/Ted S. Warren, File)

The Northern Arapaho Tribe in Wyoming filed a federal lawsuit last year contending the refusal to issue permits for killing bald eagles violates tribal members’ religious freedom.  The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has taken the unusual step of issuing a permit allowing an American Indian tribe to kill two bald eagles for religious purposes.  Federal law prohibits the killing of bald eagles, the national bird, in almost all cases. The government keeps eagle feathers and body parts in a federal repository and tribal members can apply for them for use in religious ceremonies.  The lawyer for the tribe revealed in a legal filing this week that the federal agency had issued the permit on Friday.  The report states that the federal permit will allow the Northern Arapaho to kill up to two bald eagles off the reservation.

Now, I don’t have any problem with Native Americans killing bald eagles for their religious ceremonies.  What I do have a problem with is the government picking and choosing which religion is deserving of exceptions to federal laws.  It’s okay for the Arapaho Tribe to have an exemption from the law, but not the Catholics or other Christian religions.

Wake up!  If the president has the authority to violate our constitutional rights in this way, what else can he do?  This time President Obama is targeting Catholics and pro-lifers, but next time he could target a group that you or I belong to.

If this mandate stands, then what limit will be put on the government as far as controlling our lives?

2012 WTF #20 – To ID or Not to ID

2012 WTF #20 – Hmmm – Is it just me or does this seem suspicious to anyone else?  The Justice Department’s civil rights division on Monday declared its opposition to new photo ID requirement for voters in Texas because many Hispanic voters lack state-issued identification (just like they did with S. Carolina’s similar law last year.)

In a letter to Texas officials the Justice Department said Hispanic voters in Texas are more than twice as likely than non-Hispanic voters to lack a driver’s license or personal state-issued photo ID. The department said that even the lowest estimates showed about half of Hispanic registered voters lack such identification.

Uhm, excuse me, OK, so then how do they buy a beer?  Maybe they don’t drink!  OK, so how do they cash their paychecks then?  But Kurt, maybe they use direct deposit!  How do they open a banking account then?   But Kurt, maybe they don’t have jobs so they don’t need a bank account!  OK then how do they get money?  Well Kurt, maybe they get state assistance while they’re trying to find a job!

OK, but then that is where this gets really interesting.  To apply for Federal Welfare, all applicants are given a list of REQUIRED documents to bring to sign up including: “proof of income, ID, and utility bills or other proof of residency” (see “How to Apply for a Welfare Program” section, http://www.welfareinfo.org/)

SO… you shouldn’t need an ID to prove you are who you say you are when voting in elections, but you damn well better have ID proving you are who you say you are to get government assistance?  Where is the outrage!  These people need help!  They shouldn’t have to prove that they are who they say they are or even that they need help!  Just give them the money already!   SHEESH!

Our government is sooo ridiculous sometimes it’s almost funny.  ALMOST!

Oh and in case you didn’t hear, James O’Keefe, who “screwed” over ACORN, just released a video from Vermont and New Hampshire showing one of his employees going into multiple voting areas, giving a different name each time and being handed the REPUBLICAN primary ballot without ever being asked for ID (note: he went for the Republican to show this problem is NOT a partisan issue, but can be exploited by anyone with the desire to.)

2012 WTF #17 – 6th Grader Handcuffed for Bad Attitude

2012 WTF #17 – An 11-year old sixth-grader at Shaw Heights Middle School, in Adams County, CO, was handcuffed and taken to a holding facility for disobeying the orders of an assistant principal during lunch and being “argumentative and extremely rude.”

An Adams County Sheriff’s Office incident report says the assistant principal found Yajira walking in the hallway during lunch because the girl claimed she was cold and needed to get a sweater from her locker. The report says the assistant principal was in mid-sentence when Yajira, “turned and walked away saying, ‘I don’t have time for this.'”  When intervention efforts with a counselor failed, Yajira was handcuffed and put in the school resource officer’s patrol car and taken to a juvenile holding facility called “The Link.”

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office told 9Wants to Know that handcuffing kids during transport is standard procedure, but refused to discuss this incident because a juvenile was involved and NO CHARGES WERE FILED!

So remember kids if you back-talk a teacher in Adams County CO (which you shouldn’t do, so please don’t no matter where you live) you don’t have to worry about detention or suspension, just the embarrassment that comes with being handcuffed in front of your friends, put in a patrol car and taken to juvenile detention so your parents can come get you – but don’t worry they probably won’t file charges because it doesn’t appear that you actually broke any laws that would allow them to arrest you.

Catholic Bishop Tells Parable of the Kosher Deli

Roman Catholic Bishop William E. Lori of Bridgeport, Conn., testified before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Feb. 16, 2012.  In his testimony he used an analogy  to explain the Catholic Church’s argument against the contraception mandate.  He submitted a statement in his written testimony called “The Parable of the Kosher Deli”.

According to CNSNews:

The bishop’s “parable” was not reported in the establishment press. Fox News did quote one line from it, as did ABC–not the ABC here in the United States, but the Australian Broadcasting Company.

Bishop Lori’s parable, according to a Lexis-Nexis search of English-language news sources, was not reported in The New York Times, The Washington Post, or in any other major English-language newspaper.

I’ve included a copy of the Bishop’s testimony in full from CNSNews:

“THE PARABLE OF THE KOSHER DELI”
Written Testimony of The Most Reverend William E. Lori
Roman Catholic Bishop of Bridgeport, Conn.

For my testimony today, I would like to tell a story. Let’s call it, “The Parable of the Kosher Deli.”

Once upon a time, a new law is proposed, so that any business that serves food must serve pork. There is a narrow exception for kosher catering halls attached to synagogues, since they serve mostly members of that synagogue, but kosher delicatessens are still subject to the mandate.

The Orthodox Jewish community—whose members run kosher delis and many other restaurants and grocers besides—expresses its outrage at the new government mandate. And they are joined by others who have no problem eating pork—not just the many Jews who eat pork, but people of all faiths—because these others recognize the threat to the principle of religious liberty. They recognize as well the practical impact of the damage to that principle. They know that, if the mandate stands, they might be the next ones forced—under threat of severe government sanction—to violate their most deeply held beliefs, especially their unpopular beliefs.

Meanwhile, those who support the mandate respond, “But pork is good for you. It is, after all, the other white meat.” Other supporters add, “So many Jews eat pork, and those who don’t should just get with the times.”

Still others say, “Those Orthodox are just trying to impose their beliefs on everyone else.”

But in our hypothetical, those arguments fail in the public debate, because people widely recognize the following.

First, although people may reasonably debate whether pork is good for you, that’s not the question posed by the nationwide pork mandate. Instead, the mandate generates the question whether people who believe—even if they believe in error—that pork is not good for you, should be forced by government to serve pork within their very own institutions. In a nation committed to religious liberty and diversity, the answer, of course, is no.

Second, the fact that some (or even most) Jews eat pork is simply irrelevant. The fact remains that some Jews do not—and they do not out of their most deeply held religious convictions.

Does the fact that large majorities in society—even large majorities within the protesting religious community—reject a particular religious belief make it permissible for the government to weigh in on one side of that dispute? Does it allow government to punish that minority belief with its coercive power? In a nation committed to religious liberty and diversity, the answer, of course, is no.

Third, the charge that the Orthodox Jews are imposing their beliefs on others has it exactly backwards. Again, the question generated by a government mandate is whether the government will impose its belief that eating pork is good on objecting Orthodox Jews.

Meanwhile, there is no imposition at all on the freedom of those who want to eat pork. That is, they are subject to no government interference at all in their choice to eat pork, and pork is ubiquitous and cheap, available at the overwhelming majority of restaurants and grocers.

Indeed, some pork producers and retailers, and even the government itself, are so eager to promote the eating of pork, that they sometimes give pork away for free.

In this context, the question is this: can a customer come to a kosher deli, demand to be served a ham sandwich, and if refused, bring down severe government sanction on the deli. In a nation committed to religious liberty and diversity, the answer, of course, is no.

So in our hypothetical story, because the hypothetical nation is indeed committed to religious liberty and diversity, these arguments carry the day.

In response, those proposing the new law claim to hear and understand the concerns of kosher deli owners, and offer them a new “accommodation.” You are free to call yourself a kosher deli; you are free not to place ham sandwiches on your menu; you are free not to be the person to prepare the sandwich and hand it over the counter to the customer. But we will force your meat supplier to set up a kiosk on your premises, and to offer, prepare, and serve ham sandwiches to all of your customers, free of charge to them. And when you get your monthly bill from your meat supplier, it will include the cost of any of the “free” ham sandwiches that your customers may accept. And you will, of course, be required to pay that bill.

Some who supported the deli owners initially began to celebrate the fact that ham sandwiches didn’t need to be on the menu, and didn’t need to be prepared or served by the deli itself. But on closer examination, they noticed three troubling things. First, all kosher delis will still be forced to pay for the ham sandwiches.

Second, many of the kosher delis’ meat suppliers, themselves, are forbidden in conscience from offering, preparing, or serving pork to anyone. Third, there are many kosher delis that are their own meat supplier, so the mandate to offer, prepare, and serve the ham sandwich still falls on them.

This story has a happy ending. The government recognized that it is absurd for someone to come into a kosher deli and demand a ham sandwich; that it is beyond absurd for that private demand to be backed with the coercive power of the state; that it is downright surreal to apply this coercive power when the customer can get the same sandwich cheaply, or even free, just a few doors down.

The question before the United States government—right now—is whether the story of our own Church institutions that serve the public, and that are threatened by the HHS mandate, will end happily too. Will our nation continue to be one committed to religious liberty and diversity? We urge, in the strongest possible terms, that the answer must be yes. We urge you, in the strongest possible terms, to answer the same way.

Thank you for your attention.

» Imagine a Moratorium on Gun Control in 2012 – Big Government

» Imagine a Moratorium on Gun Control in 2012 – Big Government

Interesting.  I wasn’t sure what to expect when I read this article, but it’s interesting and logical.  I’d at least like to give it a try.  I would rather be able to protect myself and my family than have the police arrive only to try to solve the crime after the fact.

via Big Government:

What would happen if the United States enjoyed a moratorium on restrictions on equipment for rifles, a moratorium on the enforcement of types of guns, acoustic suppressors, length of a rifle, magazine capacity or where and when one can concealed carry? What would change?

The greatest fear of gun control is personal independence of the citizen, where the silliness of large bureaucracies is self-evident. Since America’s first gun control measures, public servants have been able to plumb the depths of the electorate’s tolerance for political nonsense and find a rather broad tolerance for the earliest appearance of impropriety and corruption. Once servants learned that the electorate will delegate to them the illusion of protecting our personal safety, they believed and acted upon the practice of getting the people to delegate them anything. Officials haven’t stopped since.

What would happen if Americans could stop violent acts on their authority instead of being restrained from acting in emergency? What would happen if more Americans – by the millions – became increasingly aware of their legal authority to act in refusing to be a victim?

Seriously, what would happen? What would happen if more citizens refused to be a victim of crime and system both?

The Church of Obama – Mark Steyn – National Review Online

The Church of Obama – Mark Steyn – National Review Online

All I can say is boy I love, love, love the idea of politicians telling me what it’s okay to believe. I mean wow! If only the founding fathers hadn’t worked so hard at breaking us away from that pesky king.

I saw a link for a great article about this on Facebook (h/t Denise) and I had to share it with others.  Mark Steyn’s comparison to The Church of England is great. (highlights are mine)

[…]The church model the young American state wished to separate from was that of the British monarch, who remains to this day supreme governor of the Church of England. This convenient arrangement dates from the 1534 Act of Supremacy. The title of the law gives you the general upshot, but, just in case you’re a bit slow on the uptake, the text proclaims “the King’s Majesty justly and rightfully is and ought to be the supreme head of the Church of England.” That’s to say, the sovereign is “the only supreme head on earth of the Church” and he shall enjoy “all honors, dignities, pre-eminences, jurisdictions, privileges, authorities, immunities, profits, and commodities to the said dignity,” not to mention His Majesty “shall have full power and authority from time to time to visit, repress, redress, record, order, correct, restrain, and amend all such errors, heresies, abuses, offenses, contempts, and enormities, whatsoever they be.”

Welcome to Obamacare.

The president of the United States has decided to go Henry VIII on the Church’s medieval ass. Whatever religious institutions might profess to believe in the matter of “women’s health,” their pre-eminences, jurisdictions, privileges, authorities, and immunities are now subordinate to a one-and-only supreme head on earth determined to repress, redress, restrain, and amend their heresies. One wouldn’t wish to overextend the analogy: For one thing, the Catholic Church in America has been pathetically accommodating of Beltway bigwigs’ ravenous appetite for marital annulments in a way that Pope Clement VII was disinclined to be vis-à-vis the English king and Catherine of Aragon. But where’d all the pandering get them? In essence President Obama has embarked on the same usurpation of church authority as Henry VIII: As his Friday morning faux-compromise confirms, the continued existence of a “faith-based institution” depends on submission to the doctrinal supremacy of the state.

» Obama Steamrolled by Catholic Church – Big Government

» Obama Steamrolled by Catholic Church – Big Government

I’ve decided to share the article written by J. Christian Adams in Big Government.com because his writing is so much better than mine.  Here are some excerpts from his article:

  • The secular Leftists who control the White House were steamrolled last week by the Catholic Church, and they still don’t understand why.  Obama’s requirement that church organizations provide contraception and abortifacients unleashed a mighty backlash from Jews, Catholics and Protestants.  Leftists fancy themselves as champions of the First Amendment, but now we know that doesn’t include the free exercise of religion.
  • The fight between American churches and Obama isn’t like the birth control debates of 1962.  It isn’t a “war on contraception.”  It echoes different fights from different years.
In 1941, when Adolph Hitler was at the peak of his power, the Catholic Church publicly challenged Hitler’s euthanasia program against the handicapped.  Munster Bishop Clemens von Galen courageously delivered a series of sermons against the Gestapo, the closing of Catholic institutions, and most of all, the T-4 euthanasia program.  Through the summer of 1941, von Galen waged a war of conscience against Hitler, in the open, and with the imprimatur of the Catholic Church.
Heinrich Himmler wanted von Galen dead, and sent the Gestapo to arrest him.  The Bishop asked the Gestapo agents for a moment, and changed into his full bishop’s regalia – putting on his mitre, episcopal ring, pectoral cross, and carrying his crozier –  then presented himself for arrest.  The Gestapo agents promptly left without him, and von Galen spent the remainder of the war alive.
Earlier, in 1933, Hitler intervened in the internal affairs of the German Protestant churches by forcing the church to conduct leadership elections.  The corrupt elections resulted in the installation of pro-Nazi church officials who sapped the church’s moral authority.  It was this government-caused division within the church that launched the resistance of Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer.   He worked covertly to preserve “intact churches” as compared with the “destroyed churches” tainted by government interference in matters of conscience.

He continues with more interesting comparisons and examples of why President Obama was steamrolled by the Catholic church.
