I can’t help it, I just love him!
I’ve been thinking about these comments a lot in the last few days, and I gotta say, I think I get where he’s coming from but I think he’s only partially correct in his line of thought, let me expand on that.
Where he has some valid points: If you built a successful business then you needed the people who worked for you, who supplied your materials, who taught you your skills and business sense, who delivered your product, who built the roads and electrical lines and sewers that supported your business. All of the pieces that are required to run a successful business rely on the input of others to make it happen. Here he is right.
Other valid points: Yes, many people work hard, and yes many people are smart… so why are there more financially successful business people like I believe he’s trying to put down in this comment?
Two sets of factors: ones we have no control over and ones we do…
Factors We Don’t Control: Luck and Natural Opportunity … There is no doubt that some successful people can trace back to one or more events in their lives when luck was in their favor or life presented them with an opportunity that they jumped at. But there lies the key… “that they jumped at”.
Have you ever had the chance to invest your money in something, but didn’t feel good about it so you didn’t and then it took off? I had the opportunity early in my life to invest in Blockbuster Video and thought “eh, it’s just another video store” – WHO KNEW?!? Which leads me to our “Factors we do Control”.
Controlled Factors: Willingness to Take a Risk, Drive (or Desire if you will) and Gumption (Man-made Opportunity) – I submit here that you can look at the majority of financially successful people and look at their work ethics and you’ll see not just smarts and hard work, but also a drive to succeed, a desire to win, a willingness to take that risk to be successful (or fail miserably!) and the personal gumption to go out, knock on doors and create their own opportunities. Personal traits that should be REWARDED for those willing to take those risks and make their own opportunities.
I’m sorry President Obama, but once again we see you only looking at part of the picture and using that information to divide the populace further along classes.
You were supposed to be the president that could pull everyone together, but so much of what you do seems to be bent on alienation and partial facts.
It’s really sad if you stop to think about it.
Please read this great article by American Thinker. Here are some excerpts from the article to whet your whistle:
Allen West was the latest to get his knuckles rapped for saying there were “about 78 to 81” members of the Democratic Party who are members of the Communist Party.I His crime, like McCarthy’s, was in raising an uncomfortable subject. We may never know who is or isn’t a communist, socialist, Marxist, Stalinist or Leninist in Congress, since all socialists work by deception, define words with obscurities, and refuse to identify themselves, with exceptions like Dohrn and Van Jones. Even in the heyday of communism, the most influential of its comrades were never “card carrying members” and lying was a way of life, which included obligatory perjury. But regardless of their nuances, deception is an integral part of their political ideology.[…]
[…]Deception is starkly illustrated by the Fabian Society’s famed stained glass window revealed by Tony Blair in 2006 at the London School of Economics. Designed by Shaw, it shows Fabians “Sidney Webb and ER Pease… helping to build ‘the new world’.” The most stunning thing to note is the Fabian Society’s coat of arms seen below: a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Davidson, an American, and his friend E.R. met in London in 1883 to discuss politics and others later joined them. Within a year British intellectuals such as George Bernard Shaw and Sidney Webb also joined. They named it the Fabian Society after Quintus Fabius Maximus, the Roman general whose strategies of wearing down opponents by delays led to the Roman victory over Hannibal. (c.f., National Health Insurance — from Truman to Obama)
Shaw distinguished “the highly respectable Fabian Society” from other radical groups (like today’s ACORN, OWS and communists). “The Fabian Society got rid of its Anarchists and Borrovians, and presented Socialism in the form of a series of parliamentary measures, thus making it possible for an ordinary respectable religious citizen to profess socialism and belong to a Socialist Society without any suspicion of lawlessness, exactly as he might profess himself a Conservative….”[…]

Earlier this week during a speech at the University of North Carolina, Mr. Obama said:
“I’m going to quote this because I know you guys will think I’m making it up, she (Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.)) said she had ‘very little tolerance for people who tell me they graduate with debt because there’s no reason for that.’”
Which would be outrageous, except it’s not quite what she said.
For whatever reason, President Obama chose to leave out a couple of key words in his “quote” (making it a paraphrase, not a quote as he stated) because what she actually said while on the G. Gordon Liddy radio show was that she had “very little tolerance for people who tell me that they graduate with $200,000 of debt or even $80,000 of debt because there’s no reason for that”.
It looks to me like she was saying you could choose a lower cost education and not graduate with $200K in debt if you chose to (nobody MADE you go to an ivy league college just because they accepted you), not that she thought graduating with ANY debt was bad.
In that interview she goes on to say that she reminds people that the Declaration of Independence promises life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness — stressing the word “pursuit.” Adding that “You don’t sit on your butt and have it dumped in your lap” Amen, sister!
Then at the University of Iowa, Obama said, “You’ve got one member of Congress who compared these student loans — I’m not kidding here — to a ‘stage-three cancer of socialism’”.
No Mr. President, you’re not “kidding”, just misleading.
Now, even though the president didn’t name him by name, this comment can be traced back to a comment made by Congressman Todd Akin, Missouri, in a recent debate with Republican senate candidates. When asked about the student loan issue, Akin slammed the government for taking over college loans in a 2009 bill.
So it appears his comment about “stage 3 cancer of socialism” is NOT about student loans, per se, but about the government taking over the student loan program as part of a number of national debt increasing moves instead of leaving it in the hands of the financial institutes better suited to handle financial matters.
I’m sorry, but if you are going to “quote” somebody, it’s supposed to be word for word, and hopefully in context, not mostly what they said, reworded in a way to fit your agenda.
COME ON ALREADY, I AM CALLING SHENANIGANS HERE!
Socialist Party of America Releases The Names of 70 Democrat Members Of Congress Who Are Members Of Their Caucus | The Obama Hustle
Well, I guess Allen West knows what he’s talking about. Of course I never doubted him. Most of the names are not surprising and I’m sure most of you will recognize them. Here’s a hint at one. “And guess what this liberal will be all about. This liberal would be all about Socializi…uh, um…will be about…would be about…basically, (pause) taking over, and the government running all of your companies.” Give up? Her initials are Maxine Waters.
“This should come as a surprise to absolutely no one. The radical Marxist-progressives (communists) took control of the democrat party some time ago. They’ve only become more emboldened with the election of Barack Obama, who was raised as a communist from birth.
With their new found leader, Barack Obama, the Socialist Party of America felt secure enough to announce the names of 70 democrats in Congress that belong to their caucus.”
MA Members of the Socialist Party of America Caucus are as follows:
Hon. John Olver (MA-01)
Hon. James McGovern (MA-03)
Hon. Barney Frank (MA-04
Hon. John Tierney (MA-06)
Hon. Ed Markey (MA-07)
Hon. Michael Capuano (MA-08)

- The secular Leftists who control the White House were steamrolled last week by the Catholic Church, and they still don’t understand why. Obama’s requirement that church organizations provide contraception and abortifacients unleashed a mighty backlash from Jews, Catholics and Protestants. Leftists fancy themselves as champions of the First Amendment, but now we know that doesn’t include the free exercise of religion.
- The fight between American churches and Obama isn’t like the birth control debates of 1962. It isn’t a “war on contraception.” It echoes different fights from different years.
In 1941, when Adolph Hitler was at the peak of his power, the Catholic Church publicly challenged Hitler’s euthanasia program against the handicapped. Munster Bishop Clemens von Galen courageously delivered a series of sermons against the Gestapo, the closing of Catholic institutions, and most of all, the T-4 euthanasia program. Through the summer of 1941, von Galen waged a war of conscience against Hitler, in the open, and with the imprimatur of the Catholic Church.
Heinrich Himmler wanted von Galen dead, and sent the Gestapo to arrest him. The Bishop asked the Gestapo agents for a moment, and changed into his full bishop’s regalia – putting on his mitre, episcopal ring, pectoral cross, and carrying his crozier – then presented himself for arrest. The Gestapo agents promptly left without him, and von Galen spent the remainder of the war alive.
Earlier, in 1933, Hitler intervened in the internal affairs of the German Protestant churches by forcing the church to conduct leadership elections. The corrupt elections resulted in the installation of pro-Nazi church officials who sapped the church’s moral authority. It was this government-caused division within the church that launched the resistance of Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer. He worked covertly to preserve “intact churches” as compared with the “destroyed churches” tainted by government interference in matters of conscience.
He continues with more interesting comparisons and examples of why President Obama was steamrolled by the Catholic church.
Just what we need, a Nation that adopts Sustainable Development that is doomed to fail. This is socialism , that never works, along with sustainable development that’s unsustainable. You betcha, that’s what I want in my neighborhood. This would give the government even more administrative power. More regulations and less rights for us. I don’t want to be Europe.
Europe’s debt is so great there are riots in the streets. They want us to spend so much money on sustainable development, we can’t afford to live and pay taxes. Our tax money will go to pay off the deficit and the cost of this ‘sustainable’ development, and it will compromise the ability of future generations to meet their needs.
In the meantime, we lose our individual rights. Oh yeah, that sounds great! Maybe it won’t be so bad being like Europe. Oh wait, they suck!! Tell me what you think. The following are excerpts from a great article at Big Government.
From Big Government.com:
This year marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the United Nation’s Brundtland Report, which defined Sustainable Development as “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” But aristocratic socialists have corrupted the sustainable development movement into a vehicle to achieve vast administrative power for themselves. Nations that adopt Sustainable Development are doomed to fail at meeting the needs of the present generation and through debt accumulation from deficit spending will consign future generations to a life as debt slaves.
Through the early 1980s, socialist Latin American economies powered growth by quadrupling their indebtedness from $75 billion to $315 billion. With aristocrats controlling government, while the poor had no voice in these loan matters, nor did they benefit from them as most of the loan proceeds were siphoned off to benefit the aristocrats and their crony amigos.
When Ronald Reagan was elected President in 1980, the U.S. economy had suffered a decade of stagflation, turning our Midwest manufacturing base into the Rust Belt. Reagan was determined to regain international economic dominance by reasserting our Founding Father’s demand for limited government and maximum personal liberty. Reagan viscerally believed what John Adams wrote:
the moment the idea is admitted into society, that property is not as sacred as the laws of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence
Reagan’s relentless focus overcame the bi-partisan drumbeat to continue the socialist expansion of the money supply to promote growth. He then leveraged monetary restraint with the largest income tax cut in American history to power the American economy to sustained growth with low inflation.
